Both generations of the Bush camp and their pundits have referred to themselves as "card-carrying conservatives." I don't find the terms conservative or liberal to be offensive, but it's amazing how certain types will display the "conservative" moniker as though they're the best thing since sliced bread! The "card-carrying conservative" descriptor either got attributed to or claimed by the likes of John Ashcroft, Bill Bradley, Dick Cheney, Kevin Phillips, Tom Delay, John McCain and countless others. It's a subtle attempt at "in your face," but of course doesn't work any better than does "trickle-down economics."
Correspondingly, it's appropriate that I call myself a Card-Carrying Fag, and I've done so for several years now (see appended photo). I don't leave home without my Fag Card. If public officials can define themselves by an intangible political bent, I can certainly call myself a fag, AND go on record about it!
